What you see is what you get,but you also get so much more than appearances suggest! I am comfortable in my own skin. I know and like who I am. I would say that I am pretty balanced and well rounded - I'm an academic (biology and anthropology) who can repair or build all kinds of things. I'm also an artist and traveler. I'm generally clean and organized but not OCD. I'm cultured but not a snob. I generally think outside the mainstream - good thing I don't mind being out of step with the crowd. I'm a lifelong vegetarian and have eaten a mostly plant-based diet for almost 40 years but don't call myself a vegan. I can enjoy a shot of wheatgrass juice or a single-malt scotch. My politics are pretty left - think Noam Chomsky. I am anti-war and don't want to be around racists, bible-thumpers, liars or other kinds of hateful thinking. I want to leave the world a better place as best I can.
I enjoy lots of different kinds of music but can't make any of my own (well I can drum I guess...). I love to get out in nature and hike and photograph. My latest adventures were the solar eclipse in 2017, a safari to Kenya in 2018, Iceland last winter and the southwest in the fall of 2019 - I'd be happy to find someone to join me for the next one! I never know what to say on here. I'm not perfect and have my flaws. I like to be honest and upfront but never rude. I have a sense of humor that keeps me sane and level headed and I love to laugh. Much has changed in my life in the past 5 years, and now I am looking forward to the age of retirement, in a country that has taken my money over the years and spent it elsewhere. So the coming “retirement” will be more of a reinvention as I move from the “Big City” to a more self sufficient lifestyle.
If you too are thinking of a plant-based life with less stress, communing with nature, and being more creative, we may have a connection and that would be great. Not talking off-grid, I have to have Internet and lights, just a much smaller community that still holds values I did 30-40 years ago.
So if you wanna chat and see where things go, the coffee/tea is on me.
Here is some things about me ... I dislike this part as is sounds like I'm boasting, and that is not normal for me. Here are some of the personal highlights of my 50 plus years off the top of my head, and things like education and employment are not in there ;)
- I have toured Europe, East and West, in the Early 80s in a punk band
- Have created sculptures and artwork that sold and is publicly displayed
- Worked as an assignment photographer for two newspapers and a news magazine
- Own my own record label, and have composed and recorded nine complete albums
- Along with friends, and supporters have started two totally different charities
- Built my own home from the ground up with my own hands
- Climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and slept with giraffes
- Cycled and walked across all of Europe
... and none of these, or any one thing in my past defines me, because I believe that every day is a new one that holds endless possibilities, fun and adventure. Most of all no one should ever be limited by anything. Given enough time, effort and determination human beings can do amazing things, all of us.

I previously lived in Japan for most of the last 25 years. I love the outdoors, animals, cooking and eating organic vegan food. I had a great life in Japan. I moved on from that 5 years ago though and have spent the past few years in Hawaii, Europe, New Zealand, Africa and a few other places as well as spending some time with and helping my parents in Kentucky. I've been looking for my next home.. One reason I left my life in Japan is to find a partner and a more conscious community of people living nearby who share my interests and ethics. I would like to live in a place where I would have an opportunity to learn and share with other likeminded people nearby.
