MilwaukeeProfToday we lost President James Earl Carter, Jr., a decent human being,Nobel laurelate and failed President. I know he was hanging in there to see Kamala inagurated. Now that our shared hope has been dashed, I can't say I blame him for leaving. He is with Rosalyn now and enjoying eternal peace.
I'm glad it happened under Biden's watch. One can only imagine the dumb,self-serving things that you know who would say at the funeral.
VegInNotOutRIP, beautiful soul -- Jimmy Carter.
I don't think of him as a failed President -- especially after experiencing the 45th President and I am sure, there is a much better example of a failure soon to come. But that epic failure is already whining about the flags being at half-staff out of respect for President Carter, at his inauguration. Whoever said his re-election is like backing up the Titanic to hit the iceberg again got it right.
VegInNotOutJust saw a pix posted of the pallbearers of President Carter's coffin -- they are his past and most recent secret service agents who protected him; now a labor of love?
MilwaukeeProfHow sweet. I bet it is.
When I was a kid and he was in office,we took a trip that included driving through Plains. The Carter's house was set way back from the road so we kept driving back and forth, hoping that was the right place,to get a peek at it. Rather than point weapons at us, as happened when I dared to try to photograph the White House in 1983,one of the Secret Service guys eventually smiled and nodded at us like "yeah, that's their house."
