Why I'm Vegan
In 2003 I read The Mad Cowboy and decided to become pescotarian. After 4 years of that I decided to take my consumer lifestyle up a notch. I don't like seeds and nuts much so raw was out, but I love pasta and sandwiches so decided to try eating plant based (vegan). I initially became pescotarian for environmental reasons which led into all the other legitimate reasons to completely eliminate animal products from my lifestyle. I have never regretted my decision. Have been vegan since 2007!

More About Me
1. Phrases I try to live by – “"Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." and “If I am not a part of the solution, then I am a part of the problem.” 2. People usually first notice my eyes, then my energy. I’m also really good at making people feel welcome and included, and making them laugh. 3. I have a cat who I brought back from Alaska in 2006. 4. I read non-fiction primarily – Musicophilia, anything by Eric Schlosser etc 5. Highlights of 2020 so far have been going to Iceland in late February and still managing to get a few camping trips in this summer so far, even with the pandemic throwing us all a major curveball. 6. Jeff Buckley’s version of Hallelujah makes me stop in my tracks – every time. 7. I love Amazing Race, Seinfeld, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Flight of the Conchords. I also love movies like Shawshank Redemption, Good Will Hunting, Garden State, Field of Dreams, and documentaries. 8. I’m vegan and I love to cook vegan food for people, even if they don’t usually eat that way. I enjoy Thai, Indian, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern/Lebanese, Ethiopian, Sushi and the food carts we have in Portland! 9. I don’t want to live without: traveling, volunteering, friends/family, outdoors, passion/love, laughter 10. I spend a lot of time thinking about: What else should I experience/try? Where will my next trip be? All the good things in the world. How else can I make a difference – in a person’s life, as a consumer, for animals and the earth?

I'm Looking For
I enjoy spending time with people who have goals, volunteer, vote, love learning, are happy with their life but pursue personal growth. Knowledge on current events and issues is also a plus, and enjoying the outdoors is pretty much a must - I go backpacking and camping regularly (several times a year). People I hang with enjoy live music - whether in a park or at a venue, and most don't want or have biological children although some do (some are even single parents by choice). I get along best with agnostics and atheists, and those who identify as independent or democrat. I identify as female, straight, and monogamous, but I am an ally through and through, and have friends with a variety of identities, orientations, and relationship styles. I spend a lot of time with people who are vegan, vegetarian, or are willing to explore the lifestyle (are a conflicted omnivore), and are fans of cats and dogs (I have a cat and plan to foster a dog soon, and adopt one in the near future). If you sound like someone I might enjoy hanging out with, feel free to reach out. Use the keyword "Mimi" (my cat's name) somewhere in your message so I know you've read this. And note, in general I appreciate a question, or some genuine effort, in a message and very rarely (if ever) respond to "Hey" or "How you doin' tonight?" sort of messages. :)
