Why I'm Vegetarian |
I am veggie for what have come to be known as ethical reasons although, when I first started thinking about this at about nine years old, I would not have known what to call my reasons. I didn't actually become veggie until my 20s though, as my parents would not support my ideas. Anyway, it has been 30+ years, so this is NOT a phase, to say the least. I do not buy leather but I have to admit that I am frustrated by non-leather sneakers and since I am on my treadmill daily, I need a good pair of sneakers, so that has become the exception to my rule. Hopefully, one of these days, I will find a decent pair of non-leather sneakers. Meanwhile, apart from that, I do not buy products for which animals have been killed. Many of my friends were also veggies at some point, but most have become meat-eaters again. My ex-husband was a meat-eater, which became an issue for us (but was far from the ultimate reason our marriage dissolved). In any event, I would so much prefer my new partner to be veggie - something that just about all of my friends have a hard time understanding. In fact, I don't even discuss this with most people. Anyway, it would be nice to have this in common with a boyfriend, to say nothing of the fact that I cannot imagine kissing a meat-eater. I would think that another veggie would not have a problem understanding this and would not that that is weird. Are you out there????? |

More About Me |
I am an art teacher with a fine arts background and still interested in doing my own art although, admittedly, finding the time to do that is difficult. I also am looking into getting my textile designs sold - I had a business (until the market collapsed a few years ago) selling neckties with my designs. It was going quite well until....so anyway, while I have a full-time job, I am starting to revive that interest of mine. I have a daughter who is in her last year of college. She and I are quite close, but not stiflingly so. She goes to school in the midwest, for example, and I don't know where she will end up when she graduates this coming spring. I have been on my own with her since she was five and a half months old, and was very devoted to her while she was growing up. Thus, I hardly did the dating scene (two blind dates, total). Now that she is older, I can concentrate more on me. in addition to doing my art; I am a pretty good Scrabble player (if you don't know what a bingo is, I probably won't bother playing with you); I like to cook and bake and hike and swim and go to concerts and dance performances and plays and movies. I just got my second master's degree - teaching special education - the first was in teaching art. Oh - I lived overseas for almost seven years, a pretty amazing experience. I came back to the US because my (now ex-) husband wanted to return. Otherwise, there is a good chance, I would still be living overseas. I long to go back, but won't go because I do not want to live that far from my daughter. This makes me sad sometimes, but I get so much out of my relationship with her that I have accepted this as one aspect of my new reality. My life has NOT taken any kind of linear, logical or predictable path and at times I yearn to have had a different kind of life. At other times, I realize that that just isn't who I am and I can fully embrace the richness my life has offered to me. I have never been bored or suffered from inertia, that's for sure! I am grateful for that and glad that I have had the adventures that I have had - and continue to have! |

I'm Looking For |
Well, this is not so easy. I don't honestly have tons of time on my hands. However, I know that I would enthusiastically welcome a man to do all sorts of things with, and would assume that I would figure out all sorts of ways to include a man in my life. What kind of person is not easy to say other than the obvious things: intelligence, integrity, a sense of humor, kindness, compassion, self-assurance (minus arrogance), ambition, clarity and humility and solid sense of self, willingness to volunteer and understand the value of volunteering, someone who values the privilege of voting, someone who knows how to have fun, when to take oneself seriously and when not, [I know I have screwed up the grammar in this section - please forgive me] --- oh, that reminds me - if you are a person who cannot express yourself in words, then please look for someone else - I have little patience with people who write with spelling mistakes and grammatical errors - I am far from perfect but I have seen way too many abominable presentations in these dating sites!!! I think that's enough for now, yes? |
