Why I'm Vegetarian
In 1970 I was carrying petitions to help curtail the harp seal hunt in Canada. A minister asked me what was the difference between killing seals and killing cows. I began to think it over and came to the conclusion that I did not desire for anything to have to die just so I could stuff my face. There were few vegetarians to talk to at that time, but as the 70's progressed I seemed to have more and more company. It seemed that every health study between then and now has also confirmed the decision as both a better health alternative as well as fitting within my moral fiber better. I don't usually talk about this as I don't want to sound like a convert in the same genre as newly reformed alcoholics, drug addicts, religion finders, and in general over self inflated preachy types. As people used to be very threatened by my not eating meat: I tended to not bring it up or talk about it. I do it for me: not to get attention or as an insult to others.

More About Me
Highly skilled, well read, artistic and wishing to keep learning all the time. I am a very gentle soul who believes everyone has a right to live without abuse as long as they are not being abusive. I love to try everything I can where my fellow man and the environment are not put to in a damaging manner. I really love to garden and was a professional potter and a semi-professional ballet dancer for ten years each. I owned a machine shop ( Building special machines) and have complete knowledge of most fields required to build and maintain homes. I have ridden a bicycle from New York to California via Canada (1977), and I chose to ride a bicycle to commute to work whenever possible since. I really appreciate people who can accept others even when they disagree; I was raised religiously but came to realize that I don't believe in a deity that hates all who believe differently or do not believe. If you want an example ( a very funny one) go to youtube and listen to Joel Mabus sing "Hitler Was A Vegetarian". If you can chuckle at yourself you are Okay in my book. But if you want to be serious: I'll try my best to be Roebuck.

I'm Looking For
Friends first, See where it leads. I have not tried anything like this before and don't have any expectations. I am looking to relocate and used this sign up to see if any one was listed in my new location: there was not a single one. So It might be lonely for a while. But, I will make friends. At least no one will complain about my singing all the time. I guess even though it makes me feel snobbish, I like to think my life and choices matter. SO, I do like to think my fun, music, reading, and friendships are not totally frivolous in nature. Also, I realize I am getting older but not digging in to obtain close mindedness. It is hard for me to think of developing intimacy with someone who is carnivorous. I am more and more of a vegan as time goes by. I eat a little cheese and yogurt, but often because I am cooking for others and not up to preparing two separate meals. Often, I am up to it and I love to cook as well. One of my main concerns with a partner would be her ability to put up with me and my tendency to see the absurd and be a bit of a smart ass. I dearly love to laugh with folks and don't want to have to choke back mirth because of someone trying to feel victimized. I never hurt or cause harm intentionally
