| Why I'm Vegetarian |
| Ever since a young child, I've loved the animal world. At various times in the 60's I attempted to become a vegetarian while living in New York City. However, I knew little about the path and found no support from my circle of friends. Finally by the 70's after moving to Vermont, partly because I was able to find other like-minded folks and partly because I did not want to contribute to the death and suffering of other creatures any longer, I decided it was time to become a vegetarian. Today, I not only see meat eating as contributing to violence towards animals, but I see it as environmentally irresponsible as well. Furthermore, I became a vegetarian because of the animals and have been rewarded in health benefits. When I tell folks my age, they usually are quite surprised. Granted, the fact that I do yoga regularly, I'm sure contributes to my state of health. But each night when I retire, I can sleep well knowing another animal did not have to die so I could be fed. |
