Why I'm Vegan
Having been a vegetarian for many years but still enjoying yoghurt, eggs, cheese and leather shoes, I was exposed to the dark side of animal agriculture and the benefits of veganism via movies like Forks over Knives, and to research-based health advocates like Dr. Michael Greger (who I love) and I decided I didn't want or need to consume the animal products. Eating a strictly plant based diet is satisfying physically, ethically and mentally (it's so uncomplicated), and now, there is so much support for us, information-wise, and accessibility-wise, that I'm a very happy vegan.

More About Me
American expat, gardener, cyclist, dreamer. I'm also healthy (fitter and more active than most my age), adventurous, imaginative and left of center. I'm finding my community here in Melbourne, and figuring out how best to do more favorite things more often. A companion would be nice. I can be a lot of fun when I'm with someone else who is curious, unconventional, and likes to explore. I am good at conversation, though a friend recently told me that tact is not my forte. I also have a good sense of rhythm and of vocal pitch and I enjoy singing and dancing. I'm good at gardening, cooking, and body surfing, discussing film, and discussing most things. I think I'm also good at go-cart racing, and I have a talent for cat massage. I like to read and to discuss books at book clubs, and like though provoking films and the discussion that hopefully follows. Some books I've enjoyed and remember are Attwood's Alias Grace, Tom Wolfe's Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, John Irving's Hotel New Hampshire and The World According to Garp, and non fiction on the topic of neuroscience and brain plasticity. Movies: Whiplash - this is one of my favorites of all time; The Ice Storm.... Family drama about a wealthy Connecticut family, and twisted fate; The Shawshank Redemption; American Beauty (and anything with Kevin Spacey); Lost in Translation (ditto Bill Murray); Memento - great mystery thriller, Proof, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Dead Poet's Society, Wings of Desire, Far Away So Close, Paris Texas. A favorite genre: films that seem dark at first but then become illuminating. Music: Blues, Rags and Hollers - Koerner, Ray and Glover, Daft Punk, Prince, Of Monsters and Men, Mumford and Sons, William Orbit, Madonna, John Renbourn, Bon Iver, Leo Kotke, Ledbelly, the funk genre, Gotye, Edward Sharpe, Queen....my favorites change and I easily change my mind. I like music that makes me want to move (funk) or surprises me with its beauty, or makes me feel joyful, or brings back strong memory of a good moment or happy time. Shows: West Wing, Good Wife, House of Cards, House, Transparent, In Treatment, Utopia, though I don't have a TV. I also love travel but don't do it often enough. My last trip was to Thailand. Swimming in the surf makes me come alive.

A compatible companion and/or a soul-mate who is curious/imaginative, likes simple pleasures, prefers outdoors to indoors in general, and believes there is more to life than meets the eye.
