Much has changed in my life in the past 5 years, and now I am looking forward to the age of retirement, in a country that has taken my money over the years and spent it elsewhere. So the coming “retirement” will be more of a reinvention as I move from the “Big City” to a more self sufficient lifestyle.
If you too are thinking of a plant-based life with less stress, communing with nature, and being more creative, we may have a connection and that would be great. Not talking off-grid, I have to have Internet and lights, just a much smaller community that still holds values I did 30-40 years ago.
So if you wanna chat and see where things go, the coffee/tea is on me.
Here is some things about me ... I dislike this part as is sounds like I'm boasting, and that is not normal for me. Here are some of the personal highlights of my 50 plus years off the top of my head, and things like education and employment are not in there ;)
- I have toured Europe, East and West, in the Early 80s in a punk band
- Have created sculptures and artwork that sold and is publicly displayed
- Worked as an assignment photographer for two newspapers and a news magazine
- Own my own record label, and have composed and recorded nine complete albums
- Along with friends, and supporters have started two totally different charities
- Built my own home from the ground up with my own hands
- Climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and slept with giraffes
- Cycled and walked across all of Europe
... and none of these, or any one thing in my past defines me, because I believe that every day is a new one that holds endless possibilities, fun and adventure. Most of all no one should ever be limited by anything. Given enough time, effort and determination human beings can do amazing things, all of us.

I just don't see myself loving someone who doesn't care about killing / eating animals. For many of us, being a veggie is so much more than simply a diet.
I'm a former airline pilot changing careers (not by choice). My highly profitable airline was bought out, suddenly unexpectedly closed, the airline pilot retirement age was raised from 60 to 65 (no attrition for five years), and the economy was horrible. I sure miss flying the Boeing 727...the feeling of 48,000 pounds of thrust at my fingertips is difficult to duplicate! The beauty of the Earth from above is so breathtaking. A scratch in my eye from a brand new contact lens has cost me the career I so enjoyed. I went back to school and obtained my LPN, but have not used it yet due to a number of family tragedies. I had been taking care of my vegan Mom full time. Congestive heart failure is no fun. She fought a valiant battle, but is no longer with me. Now I am working on getting my house ready for sale to move into my parents (a few acres and a swimming pool).
I love music - tastes range from classical to oldies (Sinatra) to alternative, but I especially enjoy acoustic Latin / Mediterranean guitar. Hammocks - such a simple invention, but so relaxing! Canoeing, boating, bicycling, experiencing nature, tennis, or even throwing a Frisbee are all fun fair weather activities.
Based on my profile, you probably wouldn't guess I love to laugh, and joke around often. Sometimes my delivery is too dry for people to realize I'm joking...love watching the five second delay as someone gets it! I also enjoy a nice cuddle, going for walks, deep, and not so deep discussions.

I guess it is a universal truth that greater joy may be found in giving than receiving, perhaps even more so for an Irish man when it comes to personal compliments! If I were to dig deep into my archive, I might find words such as kind, thoughtful, affectionate, understanding, genuine, funny, and a real pet. The latter term, I prefer to reserve for my fur pal Oscar! True to my roots, however, I could describe myself as somewhat reserved and cautious, a perfectionist to some degree, slightly anxious at times yet, rather like a swan, appearing graceful on the surface while paddling (unseen) like anything underwater! My favorite vgetarian dishes include black beans with sweet potatoes, lentil soup, rice, wheat berries, carrots. Although I am primarily a vegetarian, my chicken dishes include yogurt chicken and orange juice chicken. My mantra: Keep it simple! What about your own cooking? And I feel it coming from others, sometimes clear out of the blue, like the woman at the grocery store seeing me with two items and saying, "Sir, you can go ahead of us." I live with a wide-open heart full of unconditional, expansive love. I practice random acts of kindness nearly everyday. I meditate, do online breathwork sessions and enjoy spiritual (not religious) books and events.
When I am not creating art, I volunteer at a local humane society and at a local food shelf. I love to walk in the woods on my property also. In addition, I enjoy working outdoors doing yard chores and flower gardening. Antiquing, auctions, yard sales, flea markets, music events and car trips to new places are some other things I like to do from time to time.
The mountains hold a special place in my heart and I now own a home on top of a small mountain in southern Vermont. My home is surrounded by flower gardens and several acres of woods. There is a lovely view of the valley below and a larger mountain in the distance.

I spend a lot of time outdoors. I kayak, hike, bike, birdwatch, and love meeting all my wild neighbors. The year before Covid I took my first surfing lesson. Although I did ride a couple of waves all the way in I mostly practiced falling. I got quite good at it. I was hoping to get back to practice more of the not falling part. But Covid got in the way. Hopefully this year I can try again with the help of a new competent president and vaccines.
I write and advocate for causes I care about and have had some successes. The circus no longer comes to my town, there's a beautiful preserved forest that does NOT have a cell phone tower, there's a large city park where ALL smoking is banned.....
My favorite issues are environmental, animal rights, and those concerning poverty and human rights. I think in another life I must have been a peasant in a peasant uprising.
This might seem odd but for fun I collect trash. My kayak often looks more like a garbage scow as I gather plastics and other trash while kayaking on the river and at the beach. I mostly just find trash but I've found some interesting stuff too, including something the bomb squad had to blow up on the spot. I'm still waiting to find either a briefcase full of half a million dollars of drug money no one claims or a chest of pirate's treasure sticking half out of a sandbar.
I love gardening... for wildlife, for food, for beauty, organically, and with native plants.
